These special rules can have severe consequences on active traders and investors. When a wash sale is triggered by an IRA trade, the loss is permanently disallowed in your taxable account. WebA wash sale is triggered by the acquisition of substantially identical replacement shares (stock or option) within 30 days before or after realizing the loss. It does not prevent you from claiming a loss. The loss is added to the cost basis of the replacement shares.
